Class Fee: $48.00 plus gst

Class Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm Arrive after 9:30am to set-up (bring lunch)

Be a “Maker” without the use PATTERNS.

Make awesome quilts, totes, wall hangings and more. With a few basic rules, simply start sewing and you end up with gorgeous projects that are fun, fun, fun to stitch. Carola will share tips, tricks and lots of inspiration to encourage you to improvise!

Supply List:

You will need to bring:

Your sewing machine

All supplies needed for patchwork: needles, thread, ¼” foot, seam ripper, snips, scissors)

Cutting Equipment (rotary cutter, ruler and mat)

Personal Pressing Equipment* (mat and Iron) Starch is optional

*Communal iron will be available

Fabric: Scraps, stash and yardage (see below for preparation instructions)

Pick a back ground fabric, of neutral colour, bring about 1 to 2 metres, depending on how big you want to go.

Before Class:

Put together your colour palette of: scraps, fat quarters or from your yardage. A jelly roll would work too. Not sure? Bring potential candidates and we will sort out a winning combination together!

Need help? Below is a tip for choosing a colour palette if you don’t want to be completely blindfolded when pick fabric:

“Improvisational” patchwork can take many forms:

1. Super scrappy: whatever comes to hand

2. Organized scrappy: colours thoughtfully organized with a background fabric to tie it all together, but still scraps.

3. Colours chosen by you that have a theme. For example, the colour palette of your living room or pick an item that gave you a colour inspiration, such as a vase, a decorator pillow or a photo of colourful buildings in Spain. This can be fabric purchased specifically for this project
