Block measures 6 1/2” x 12 1/2”

Let’s get started:

Steam press all fabrics before cutting, there will be some shrinkage.

8 – 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” background fabric (red or blue solid)

4 – 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” goose fabric (red maple leaf print)

2 squares and 1 rectangle = 1 goose

 

 

Press rectangles in half to measure 3 1/2” x 3 1/4”

Sandwich the pressed rectangle between two squares. The folded edge will be 1/4” down from the top.

Stitch one side (with a fold in it) of the sandwich with a 1/4” seam. (Do NOT stitch the bottom side with four raw edges or the top side with two raw edges)

Press seam open.

On the right side open and flatten the rectangle. Press.

Make three more units.

Stitch all four units together along the long side. The geese should all be pointing in the same direction.

Roll back about 1/4” to 3/8” and press the two diagonal sides of each goose. Use temporary glue to hold in place.

With fine thread that blends into the fabric, straight stitch along the inside curved edges of the geese.

Your block is ready to be added to your 150 Anniversary quilt.
